Are you a university chemistry student?
Would you like to gain laboratory experience across a range of chemistry disciplines including forensic science, environmental science, occupational health and safety, and more?
If so, consider a work placement at ChemCentre. You will get the opportunity to assist with routine work, maintenance of instruments and more. You will learn all the steps from sample registration, preparation and analysis, to reporting.
Applications to be a Student Officer open in September each year. Placements are advertised via the WA Universities’ Careers Hubs and via ChemCentre’s LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.
2026 intake
Open to: Chemistry students who have completed at least third-year chemistry
Description: Paid work experience between November 2026 to March 2027 (3-month period)
Closing: Monday 14 September
Occasionally, ChemCentre will offer unpaid internships. Internships offer TAFE and university students studying chemistry (or related course) in Australia or internationally the opportunity to gain valuable practical laboratory experience and learn more about the Chemistry workforce.
The availability of internships varies each year, depending on current projects and the laboratory’s capacity for interns.
ChemCentre has established relationships with TAFE colleges and tertiary institutions for accessing students for internships.
Unfortunately, ChemCentre is unable to offer work experience opportunities to high school students.
