ChemCentre, in partnership with the Asian Pacific Food Analysis Network (APFAN) and Curtin University, will host the international workshop Regional Leadership in Food Analysis for Safety, Trade and Innovation from 30 September to 2 October at Curtin University’s Resources and Chemistry Precinct in Bentley.
Bringing together leading scientists, food analysts, laboratory professionals and regulatory experts from across the Asia-Pacific region, this workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to engage directly with international experts from APFAN and across the Asia-Pacific region, discussing current issues affecting food testing laboratories and sharing knowledge on best-practice analytical methods. Attendees will also explore how advances in analytical technologies and increasingly sophisticated instrumentation are shaping the future of food analysis.
A key focus of the workshop will be supporting laboratories to meet the requirements of the internationally recognised ISO/IEC 17025 standard, and through expert presentations and practical discussions, participants will gain a better understanding of common challenges associated with proficiency testing and the strategies laboratories can use to improve performance and achieve reliable outcomes.
The Asia-Pacific region is home to around 60 per cent of the world's population and accounts for more than 40 per cent of global trade. As international markets become increasingly interconnected, there is a growing need for consistent approaches to measurement, testing, standards and conformity assessment to support food safety and facilitate trade between nations.
Food analysis plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, quality and integrity of food products. Accurate chemical and microbiological testing supports public health, underpins regulatory compliance and helps maintain confidence in domestic and international food markets. It also provides essential evidence to inform policy development, regulatory monitoring and scientific decision-making.
Australia and especially Western Australia play a significant role in the Asia Pacific region through the export of 'clean, green' foods and raw materials as well as mentoring food testing laboratory personnel in their conformity assessment roles in food safety and food trade.
