1,500 tonnes of sandalwood nuts are wasted each year. While sandalwood is harvested for its essential oil, most of the edible nuts are left on the ground in orchards to rot.
ChemCentre is working with the WA sandalwood industry and Chameleon Innovations as part of a Fight Food Waste CRC project to stop this waste and enhance the value, volume and continuity of supply of this potential food resource.
Recently ChemCentre hosted the project’s key players in an industry workshop to share the latest regarding the project which has the potential to improve the WA sandalwood industry’s income by up to $57 million per annum.
