Congratulations to the latest members of our Racing Chemistry team to gain membership to the prestigious Association of Official Racing Chemists.
Team Leader, Dr Nicola Beckett and chemists, Buddhika Dorakumbura and Elise Cook recently successfully completed international Proficiency Trials in this specialised area, to be accepted for professional membership of the prestigious Association. Membership is international and the trio will join a specialist group of racing chemists worldwide, which includes ChemCentre chemists Charlie Russo and Meena Raghvani.
Membership of the Association consists of individuals, not laboratories, and is limited to those concerned with the detection of drugs in racing animals. The scope of each operation is defined by the drug control measures of the Rules of Racing in each jurisdiction serviced.
The Association aims “… to encourage the advancement of these branches of science applicable to the detection of drugs in biological materials; the promotion of research in those fields; the improvement in the qualifications and usefulness of racing through high standards of technical training, ethics, and performance, through exchange of information among members; and furthering of public education and welfare by cooperation of the members with each other and official agencies…”.
ChemCentre is one of only four Australian laboratories which tests equine and canine samples and the Racing Chemistry team provides comprehensive services to Racing and Wagering Western Australia, the State’s controlling authority for thoroughbred, harness horse and greyhound racing industries.
