ChemCentre achieves collaborative milestone
1 May 2017

The first of May is a big day in the long and proud history of ChemCentre, today ChemCentre begins a new phase of its operation with the successful transition of the National Measurement Institute’s (NMI) WA-based Analytical Services facility into ChemCentre’s structure.

On 1 February 2017 an agreement was reached for the transfer of  NMI’s Western Australian chemical analytical services to ChemCentre’s facility in Bentley, WA.

After many months of positivity, collaborative negotiations and planning between our respective federal and state agencies, the transition of staff and equipment is complete and we are now ready to supply an undisrupted service to clients old and new from today – Monday, 1 May.

ChemCentre CEO Peter Millington reiterated his thanks to all involved in both organisations who have worked tirelessly to ensure that today marks the expansion of both organisations’ capabilities for the benefit of communities and industry, especially in Western Australia.

“Following a recent visit to NMI’s laboratories in Sydney and Melbourne, ChemCentre remains confident there are considerable opportunities to develop a wider national partnership, combining our respective strengths in chemical and forensic science analysis,” Mr Millington said.

“Some of the opportunities being discussed include allergen detection such as gluten and lupin research; further developing a national range of testing capabilities within the PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) group. These demonstrate knowledge sharing and growth in our respective mining services, such as nanoparticle analysis and mine pit lakes.

Importantly, we are looking forward to developing new business relationships, and building on the legacy left by NMI’s Analytical Services facility in Western Australia.”

An important driver of the agreement is the imperative to ensure no replication of services; rather, to use the genuine collaborative approach to combine skills and enhance knowledge in this nationally essential field of science.

ChemCentre and NMI are finalising a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which will provide a framework for this unique and positive work to continue.
