ChemCentre’s Core Emergency Response (ER) Team recently met with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) HAZMAT Branch, reaffirming the strong partnership between the two agencies under Western Australia’s State Hazard Plan.
This ongoing collaboration ensures ChemCentre continues to provide expert chemical advice and rapid incident response capabilities in support of DFES-led emergency operations. These regular meetings are a key mechanism for maintaining seamless coordination and preparedness across agencies.
Prior to the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, and Superintendent Operations from DFES visited ChemCentre and personally expressed their appreciation to the ER Team. Their acknowledgment highlights the critical role ChemCentre plays in delivering scientific expertise and vital services that help protect the Western Australian community.
ChemCentre Chief Executive Officer, Paul Nicholls, said the partnership reflects the unique role ChemCentre plays in frontline emergency response.
“ChemCentre’s scientific capability is an essential part of Western Australia’s emergency response network,” Mr Nicholls said.
“When incidents involve unknown or hazardous substances, our team delivers fast, accurate advice that emergency services rely on to make critical decisions.”
He said the relationship with DFES was built on trust, technical excellence, and shared purpose.

Looking ahead, ChemCentre is pleased to announce the recommencement of a staff placement within the DFES HAZMAT Branch. In this rotating role, a member of the ER Team will be embedded within the branch, contributing to joint projects and serving as a direct liaison between the two agencies.
This embedded position reflects the maturity and strength of the relationship between DFES and ChemCentre and further enhances the collective ability to respond effectively to chemical incidents and public safety threats.
